Barrows will die fristgerechte Vollendung des Streckenbaus sabotieren. Campeaus Aufgabe ist es, die Arbeitsmoral zu untergraben und die Indianer aufzuwiegeln. Seine rechte Hand ist Dick Allen (Robert Preston), ein alter Kriegskamerad von Jeff Bu! tler. Dick Allen raubt die Lohngelder der Union Pacific. Die Posthalterin Mollie Monahan (Barbara Stanwyck) überredet ihn, das Geld zurückzugeben. Wegen ihrer Verbindung mit Dick Allen wird Mollie vom Postdienst entlassen. Sie trifft Jeff Butler und Dick Allen auf einem Zug, der von Indianern überfallen wird. In höchster Not werden sie von der Kavallerie gerettet.
